Portrait of a Craftsbury Graduate
In October 2014, Craftsbury School Board formally adopted the Portrait of a Craftsbury Graduate as our Ends statement. These are the things -- the knowledge, the skills, and the habits of mind -- that we expect a Craftsbury student to pursue throughout his or her time in our Pre-K-12 system, and to attain by the time he or she graduates High School. Everything the School Board does is guided by our commitment to providing every student a fair opportunity to achieve these ends. Institutional Assessment The Craftsbury schools participate in various assessments throughout the academic year. The School Board uses the results of these assessments as one of several methods to determine the areas in which our system as a whole is achieving the Ends set out in the Portrait of a Graduate, and to identify areas where the Board might focus its attention and support. Buildings, boards, districts, supervisory unions -- the jargon of Vermont education can bewilder even seasoned Vermonters. Here is a primer on the Vermont system, and the role, responsibilities and constraints on local School Boards within that system |

Collaboration With Sterling College
Late in 2014, Craftsbury Schools and Sterling College began discussions in earnest about the significant benefits to students each institution could realize through shared facilities and collaborative programming. In March 2015, the School Board sought and obtained from Town voters the authorization to make decisions about ownership of the Industrial Arts building, which freed up the Board to include that building in its discussions with Sterling. Learn more about the proposed collaboration with Sterling College and read the Memo of Understanding endorsed by the Board that is guiding the ongoing conversation. Act 46 In 2015, the Vermont General Assembly enacted a measure to "encourage" the consolidation of school districts and boards across the state. Learn about the Act, its implications for the Craftsbury School District, and how we as a community are developing a response to these events. Also, find a link to an Act46News twitter feed, so you can track what's happening around the region and the state.
